Personal Bio

My name is Vince Marcellino, better known as Nova online, and I’m a digital artist specializing in 2D animation, Storyboarding, Illustration, Concept Art and Writing. I got my start in Western NY, and graduated with a BFA in Animation from Daemen University in Buffalo, New York.

For as long as I have been able to hold a pencil, I have been fascinated by what can be captured on a page, and for as long as I can remember, I have been driven to capture more. I am a storyteller by heart, and the skills I have cultivated over my career have always been used to help me tell those stories. It is my passion, not only to make art, but to breathe life into it, and hopefully make my audience see things as passionately as I do.

Professional History

I have several years of experience working in the animation industry. My most recent experience has been at Powerhouse Animation Studios as a storyboard revisionist. While there, I was also given many opportunities to hone my skills further and create entire boards from scratch.

Professionally, I find that I thrive in the art of Storyboarding, as it is a way to combine my strongest skills in one place. It is a way for me to translate the story of a script into something visual that an audience can grasp- not just by turning the words into pictures, but by controlling the motion of a scene, telling unscripted stories through facial expressions & body language, and to help make the story feel more real.

Previously, I have done promotional & animation artwork for Scott Bradley’s Postmodern Jukebox, Yachtclub Films, Remix Labs, and others.

As “Nova”

I started Nova Illustration in college as a means to earn an income off of commissions. Since then, my online personality has taken the form of a Martian named Nova. From there, I have found myself doing freelance work for many individual & commercial projects, doing everything from promotional artwork to storyboarding to directing. Nova Illustration also served as a way for me to publish my own personal projects and advertise my speedpaint-based YouTube Channel.

In recent years, I have built an audience that seeks out my character commissions- mostly for Tabletop games such as D&D. I also have several personal projects in the works, such as a science-fiction webcomic I’m eager to start titled Wonders, and a modern fantasy podcast which I would love to continue with several friends of mine titled The Shadow Dispatch.
